Delhi gangrape: Victim's condition worsens; Sonia meets protesters


New Delhi:(Page3 News Network)-The condition of the 23-year-old victim of gangrape in Delhi, has worsened. According to Dr BD Athani, Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, she might be put on ventilator again as she is facing respiratory problems.
The victim had been given some juice on last evening and had been taken off the ventilator for over 36 hours. The doctors also tried to take her off the bed and make her take a few steps. Doctors say the young paramedic student was made to get up from her bed and take a few steps. Doctors say they would continue with the exercise. 
However, there is still some time before she actually starts walking on her own. Doctors had also said they are keeping the patient on high doses of antibiotics and high standards of hygiene - two important factors for preventing infection.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi today met with a delegation of protesters of gang rape in New Delhi and listened to their demands. The meeting was also attended by the Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and Minister of State for Home Affairs, R. P.N Singh.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, R. P.N Singh said that government has heard the voices of the students and it will consider amendment in the law for more stringent punishment in rarest of rare cases of sexual assault. 
He said government is also considering views on changing laws to deal with sexual harassment. Mr. Singh said center will try to fast track the case and make sure maximum punishment to the culprits of Delhi gang rape.
Mr. Singh also appealed the people who are protesting against the rape incident to maintain peace. The delegation members said that Ms Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have assured fast and tough action in the incident.
They also appealed the Protesters to maintain calm. However the protestors said the agitation will continue in a peaceful manner.
