23 more people succumb to severe cold in North India


New Delhi:(Agency/Newsonair)-The entire North India continued to remain in the grip of severe cold wave today, with 23 more people succumbing to the chill in various parts of the region.
Delhi shivered at season's lowest of minimum 1.9 degrees, five notches below normal. Today's maximum temperature was recorded 11.8 degree Celsius which is 9 degree Celsius below normal. A Met office forecast, the city is likely to wake up to a foggy morning tomorrow. Talking to AIR, the MeT Director M. Duraiswamy said that cold weather is expected to improve in the coming days as the mercury will increase gradually from tomorrow.
AIR correspondent reports that flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi remained normal today. On the other hand rail services were effected due to the dense fog in northern region and several Delhi bound trains arrived late due to which Northern Railway had to reschedule the departure timings of many trains.
In Uttar Pradesh, 15 more persons died due to intense cold conditions, taking the toll in the state this winter to 155. Muzaffarnagar continued to remain the coldest place in the state, recording a low of 0.2 degrees. Met officials said cold wave conditions will continue to prevail in the state during the next 48 hours.
At least six persons succumbed to the chill in Punjab and Haryana, where normal life remained affected due to biting cold and thick fog cover.
Hisar recorded an all-time low of minus 1.1 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal, whereas Narnaul registered a low of zero degrees Celsius, five notches below normal.
Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded a low of 3 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.
Entire Rajasthan too is reeling under severe cold. At most of the places, mercury dropped 1 to 3 degree Celsius in the last 12 hours. Churu was the coldest place in the state today where minimum temperature was recorded at minus 2.2 degree Celsius. At Mount Abu, the temperature is being recorded at zero degree Celsius since the last three days.
